Prayer Challenge Sixty-Four

DEVOTIONAL: “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’” Psalm 91:1-2, ESV.

CHALLENGE: The secret places… Jesus told His disciples that “when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret” (Matt 6:6a). Why pray in secret? It is not so much as to hide fro the world but to refrain from the temptation of priding oneself before the crowds (see Matt 6:5). Kendrick writes, “Your true heart is revealed in secret. In other words, the secret you is the real you.” What you think and what you do when one human is looking is the real you. In secret we lay our souls and minds bare before the Lord. In this way we get to know God on a personal level. “When we give Him our full attention…He is pleased and honored.” Do you have a personal prayer room or space? When is your private prayer time? Seek God on a personal level through prayer, as a family, and as a church.
