Prayer Challenge Fifty-Five

DEVOTIONAL: “There they cry out, but he does not answer, because of the pride of evil men. Surely God does not hear an empty cry, nor does the Almighty regard it.” – Job 35:12-13, ESV.

CHALLENGE: “The Locks and Keys of Prayer” – The Kendrick brothers have ten locks that may hinder our prayer life and ten keys that may strengthen our prayer life. Today we will take a brief glimpse at the first five locks. Our false attitudes (that we have from time to time) towards God can and will hinder us, not Him. “God, of course, can answer any request He chooses from any person who asks.” What are the aspects that hinder our prayers? They are linked to our understanding of and relationship to God: “Praying without knowing God through Jesus”, an unrepentant heart, “Praying for show”, empty words, and unspoken prayers. (For further reading: The Battle Plan for Prayer, chapter 11. You can buy it here and here.)

We all fall into temptations and sin now and then. But how often do we examine our hearts? How many times are we praying for personal gain instead of growing the Kingdom of Heaven?
