Prayer Challenge Thirty-Four

Devotional: “I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him” ~ Ephesians 1:16-17, ESV.

Challenge: In most of Paul’s epistles he offers a prayer for the church or individual he is writing to. In Ephesians Paul gives thanks to God for the church. D. A. Carson links Paul’s thankfulness here with God’s sovereignty. Paul gives thanks for “God’s intervening, sovereign grace”; that God’s “holy purpose of salvation…may be accomplished”; and Paul reviews “God’s most dramatic display of power” in their lives. Do we look forward to seeing God’s displays of His grace, holy purpose and power? What areas of our lives are we thankful for God’s sovereignty?
