Prayer Challenge Eleven

Devotion: “But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other.” ~ Luke 18:13-14a (ESV).

Challenge: Depending on God… John Calvin’s second rule of prayer is “the sense of need that excludes all unreality.” What we think of as ‘real’ depends on what or who is in control of our lives. Calvin is “referring to what could be called ‘spiritual humility.’ It includes both a strong sense of our dependence on God…and a readiness to recognize and repent of our faults…” What reality is your prayer? Is prayer your “best spiritual clothes” or is it your humility before God?
