Devotion: “In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge. The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death.” ~ Proverbs 14:26-27 (ESV).
Challenge: Fear and awe of God… In John Calvin’s work ‘Institutes of the Christian Religion’ his lists “four rules of prayer”. These are not rules we must obey to be Christians but aspects for us to consider when we do come before God Almighty. His “first rule of prayer is the principle of reverence or the ‘fear of God.’” When we converse with God “there is nothing worse than to be ‘devoid of awe.’” What fear grips you when you pray? Is God awe-inspiring or do you shutter in terror?
